Dilations Practice and Rotations
We are going to practice graphing image dilations and go over the last transformation!

2
Dilations Practice
First, lets practice some graphing dilations like we did yesterday.
3
Multiple Choice
A dilation is which of the following:
only an enlargement
only a reduction
Either an enlargement or a reduction
Neither an enlargement or a reduction
4
Multiple Choice
Enlargement or reduction? Find the scale factor!
It's an enlargement; the scale factor is 3.
It's a reduction; the scale factor is 1/3.
It's a reduction; the scale factor is 1/2.
It's an enlargement; the scale factor is 2.
5
Multiple Choice
Triangle ABC will be dilated using the rule (x, y)→(2x, 2y). What will be the coordinates of C'?
(12, -3)
(12, -6)
(3, -1.5)
(8, -5)
6
Multiple Choice
Enlargement or reduction? Find the scale factor!
It's a reduction; the scale factor is 2.
It's an enlargement; the scale factor is 2.
It's an enlargement; the scale factor is 1/2.
It's a reduction; the scale factor is 1/2.
7
Multiple Choice
Dilate Point B by a scale factor of 1/2
(1.5,-4)
(-1.5,1)
(-1,-1.5)
(-2,-2)
8
Multiple Choice
The point (8, 12) was dilated to become point (2, 3). What was the scale factor?
½
¼
4
2
9
Multiple Choice
Choose the correct scale factor:
2
3
1/3
1/2
10
Now lets go over Rotations (write down the next 2 slides)
Rotations are when you turn an image on a coordinate plate. You can turn the image up to 4 times either clockwise (turning the shape to the right) or counterclockwise (turning the shape to the left). When you make a rotation, the shape will look EXACTLY the same, just sideways or upside down.
11
There are 4 types of turns
90 degrees (turn the shape once), 180 degrees (turn shape twice), 270 degrees(turn shape 3 times) and 360 degrees (turn shape 4 times), 360 degree turns get you back to the original shape.
Now here is a video talking about rotations.
12
13
Lets do some rotation practice!
14
Multiple Choice
A transformation that “turns” a figure about a fixed point at a given angle and a given direction.
reflection
translation
rotation
dilation
15
Multiple Choice
How many degrees was the figure rotated?
90 degrees counterclockwise
180 degrees
270 counterclockwise
90 degrees clockwise
16
Multiple Choice
Triangle C is rotated 180° clockwise with the origin as the center of rotation to create a new figure. Which triangle shows the new location?
A
B
C
D
17
Multiple Choice
Identify the transformation from A to D.
90o Clockwise Rotation
180o Rotation
270o Clockwise Rotation
360o Rotation
