Describe the relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration.

In what ways are they connected?

In what ways are they different?

3

Body Systems

A group of organs working together to maintain homeostasis within the body.

The three primary body systems that function to support AEROBIC CELLULAR RESPIRATION are:

- Respiratory system

- Digestive system

- Circulatory system

Question image

The circulatory system is made of the heart, blood, and blood vessels. The circulatory system carries oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to cells, and removes waste products, like carbon dioxide.

Which organ is responsible for pumping the blood throughout the system?

1

Lungs

2

Heart

3

Stomach

4

Brain

5

The heart is a pump...

  • Usually beating about 60 to 100 times per minute.

  • With each heartbeat, the heart sends blood throughout our bodies, carrying oxygen to every cell.

  • After delivering the oxygen, the blood returns to the heart. The heart then sends the blood to the lungs to pick up more oxygen.

  • This cycle repeats over and over again.

7

Multiple Choice

Question image

The respiratory system is made of the nasal passage, trachea, and lungs.

What is the primary role of the respiratory system?

1

Digestion of food into absorbable nutrients

2

Circulate blood throughout the body

3

Delivery of oxygen into the body and the removal of carbon dioxide

4

Release hormones

8

Air's Pathway:

Air enters this system through the nose. It then moves into the nasal cavity, a hollow space behind the nose. Air also enters through the mouth. These two airways meet at the upper part of the throat, called the pharynx.

From the pharynx, to the trachea which separates into two main branches, or bronchi—one for each lung. Within the lungs, the bronchi divide into smaller and smaller branches. The branches end with tiny air sacs called alveoli. There are more than 600 million alveoli in the lungs. The alveoli contain tiny blood vessels called capillaries.

What are TWO ways that the respiratory system helps in the process of aerobic cellular respiration? (see formula for hints)

10

Multiple Choice

Question image

The digestive system is responsible for bringing food into the body and breaking it down into nutrients.

What group of organs represents the digestive system?

1

Brain, spinal cord, nerves

2

Heart, blood, blood vessels

3

Lungs, trachea, avioli

4

Esophagus, stomach, small intestines

11

The digestive system

The function of the digestive system is digestion and absorption.

Digestion is the breakdown of food into small molecules called nutrients.

Absorption is when the nutrients are then absorbed or taken into the body by diffusing into the bloodstream.
