Sentences Structure and Connectors

Type of Sentences- Simple Sentences

只有一个subject(主语/主角) 和 一个 verb(动作):

a. The man is a police.

b. Nadira rides her bicycle happily.

c. Yong Jun and Yeong Horng play together in the mud.

Type of Sentences- Simple Sentences

Identify the subject and verbs.

1. I am hungry

2. He lives in Penang.

3. The flowers are red.

4. They come here often.

5. I should give this to you.

Type of Sentences- Compound Sentences

由两句或多句形成的。会用"and", "or", "but", "so" or "because"

Exercise:

1. Jamil ate lunch after school. Jamil rested after school.

2. Do you read in your free time? Do you draw in your free time?

3. He wants to buy a doughnut. He forgets to bring his money.

4. I missed the bus. I had to walk home.

5. She looks worried. She cannot find her purse.

Type of Sentences- Compound Sentences

1. Jamil ate lunch and rested after school.

2. Do you read or draw in your free time?

3. He wants to buy a doughnut but he forgets to bring his money.

4. I missed the bus so i had to walk home.

5. She looks worried because she cannot find her purse.

Connectors I 连词

For joining 2 or more words or sentences:

1. and

2. as well as : Anna, as well as her sisters, is good at swimming.

3. not only ... but also : Ali is not only smart, but he is also very hardworking.

4. both ... and : Both Ali and Abu will help you in your homework.

Connectors II 连词

For showing contrast（对比；差别）:

1. but

2. and yet : She does not speak our language and yet she seems to understand what we say.

3. however : Tom loved singing. However, no one wanted to listen to him sing.

4. although : Although the exam was very difficult, but Ali managed to get good result.

5. despite : Despite his riches, he's not contented.

Connectors III 连词

For showing choice(选择):

1. or

2. either ... or : You can have either sandwiches or burgers.

3. neither ... nor : Neither Dira nor Ally gets full marks.

Connectors IV 连词

For showing reason(原因):

1. because

2. as : We will not add chilli to the curry as he does not like spicy food.

3. for : I bought a pair of socks for you.

4. since : Since it raining cat and dog outside, we decide to stay indoors.

Connectors V 连词

For showing purpose(目的):

1. so that : I keep my phone in silent mode so that the ringtone wouldn't bother other people in the library.

For showing time or sequences:

1. when : When the pupils heard the siren, they quickly queued up and followed their teacher out of the classroom.

2. while : My brother was napping while I was watching television programme.

3. as : The telephone rang as we were having dinner.

4. since : Since that day onward, he changed his attitude.

5. for : We went to England for four days.

Connectors VI 连词

For showing condition(情况):

1. if: You are allowed to play outside if you finished your homework.

2. unless: We will go the Taiping tomorrow morning unless it rains.

For showing cause(原因) and effect(结果):

1. therefore: A car accident cause a huge traffic jam therefore we will be late.

For showing result(結果):

1. consequently : He was caught littering and was consequently sentenced to do community service for 2 weeks.

2. thus : He switched off his phone and thus we were unable to contact him.
