2
The basic properties (parts)
Frequency- The higher the frequency, the closer the waves are together and the greater the energy carried by the waves.
Amplitude- The height of the wave from the resting position.
Wavelength- Wavelength is a measure of the distance from the one crest to another crest.
Crest- the Highest point of a wave
Trough- The lowest point of a wave
Line of origin- the original position of the wave before the wave moves through it.
3
The basic properties (part2)
Transverse- Waves in which the particles vibrate is an up and down motion.
Longitudinal wave- Waves in which the vibration of particles move back and forth.
Mechanical wave- A wave that requires a medium to travel.
Medium- The medium is the matter that a wave travels through.
Reflection- Occurs when light bounces off objects.
Diffraction- The bending of waves around a barrier or an opening
Refraction- When light passes from one transparent material to another of a different density.
4
The basic properties (part3)
Electromagnetic- Waves that transfer energy without a medium.
Seismic Wave- A vibration that travels through Earth carrying the energy released during an earthquake.
