The basic properties (parts)

  • Frequency- The higher the frequency, the closer the waves are together and the greater the energy carried by the waves.

  • Amplitude-  The height of the wave from the resting position.

  • Wavelength- Wavelength is a measure of the distance from the one crest to another crest.

  • Crest- the Highest point of a wave

  • Trough- The lowest point of a wave

  • Line of origin- the original position of the wave before the wave moves through it.

3

The basic properties (part2)

  • Transverse- Waves in which the particles vibrate is an up and down motion.

  • Longitudinal wave- Waves in which the vibration of particles move back and forth.

  • Mechanical wave- A wave that requires a medium to travel.

  • Medium- The medium is the matter that a wave travels through.

  • Reflection- Occurs when light bounces off objects.

  • Diffraction- The bending of waves around a barrier or an opening

  • Refraction- When light passes from one transparent material to another of a different density.

4

The basic properties (part3)

  • Electromagnetic- Waves that transfer energy without a medium.

  • Seismic Wave- A vibration that travels through Earth carrying the energy released during an earthquake.
