President Wilson gave a speech on January 22, 1917 to all of the countries involved in the war
He asked them to end the war

Germany came up with a plan to end the war
They said they would sink any ship that was near Great Britain, without warning
They hoped this would force Britain to stop fighting

Germany's Plan
Germany knew that the United States would eventually declare war on them. They hoped that they could get Britain to surrender before the US joined the fight. They knew it would be over for Germany if the US got involved.

In exchange, Mexico would get much of the west coast of the US, once they defeated the US
