Conjunctions

• connect related words, phrases, ideas, sentences

• FANBOYS

• For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So

FOR

Examples:

I wasn't able to to study (effect), for I finished my chores (cause).

My sister failed her test, for she spent all night watching TV.

AND

Examples:

I like playing online games, and I like eating sweets.

My sister like comedy films and I like horror films.

NOR

EXAMPLES:

I do not like the heat, nor do I like the cold weather.

She does not write well, nor does she review her work.

BUT

EXAMPLES:

I need to study for my quiz, but I need to finish my chores.

My brother promised to lend me his Switch, but he didn't keep his promise.

OR

EXAMPLES:

I can study for my lessons early, or I can rest first.

You can choose eat junk food, or you can choose to eat healthy snacks.

YET

EXAMPLES:

I ran very fast, yet I still didn't make it.

I ate so much already, yet I feel like I can still eat more.

SO

EXAMPLES:

I need to study now, so I can have more time to rest.

She needs to submit on time, so she gets the highest grade.
