Joints

• Connect bones

• There are three types of joints

• Fixed joint (joints between bones in cranium) they cannot move

• Semi-movable joint (joints bones our vertebra) they do not move freely

• Movable joints (joints in our hand and legs) you can move freely in any direction

Muscles are part of locomotion system

• Main function of muscle is movement

• Muscles consist of cells called myocytes, or muscle fibers

Myocytes

• Myocytes combine and make muscular tissue

• There are 3 types of muscular tissue: smooth, skeletal and cardiac

skeletal muscles are muscles we move with

• We can control them, e.g. muscles of legs, hands or head

• Skeletal muscles consists of a bunch of muscles bound together - fibers

• Muscle fibers of skeletal muscles are striated

• Connective tissue covers the muscle

Muscle of our heart

• We can not control cardiac muscles

• It moves fast and does not stop

• Cardiac muscles are also striated

Muscles of interior organs, e.g. stomach, vessels, etc.

• We can not control them

• They move independently

• Smooth muscles are not striated, they move slowly
