Laissez Faire

Laissez faire, typically pronounced "LAYzay fair," was originally a French economic term meaning “allow to do,” as in: the government does not interfere in the marketplace. For example, if a product is poorly made, people won't buy it no need for the government to step in. Parents can take a laissez faire approach -no curfews or set rules, hoping their kids will stay out of trouble

by doing the right thing.

Republicans were willing to allow the government to help to some extent, but not the Democrats. They wanted no government involvement.

Texas Seed Bill Veto: Farmers in Texas are suffering from a drought, and wanted some assistance from the federal government. Congress responds with the Texas Seed Bill, which would assist the farmers financially. This passes Congress, but is vetoed by Democratic President, Cleveland. He makes a statement that basically says people will become lazy if the government intervenes.
