Embedded Clause

  • An embedded clause is another way of using a subordinate clause by dropping it into the middle of a sentence. This time you need two commas, one at either side of the clause.

  • Max, battling against the wind and rain, searched for his rabbit


  • Max, worrying, because it was getting dark, searched for the rabbit

  • An embedded clause does not make sense on it's own. You can't just say: battling against the wind and rain, you need the main clasue as well
