Lesson 12: Judging the Effectiveness of the Presentation
Day 1

2
LIFE PERFORMING OUTCOME
As a Christ-Centered Paulinian, I am credible, responsive communicator and team player, building community through active collaboration.
3
LEARNING TARGETS
I can identify the elements of effective presentation
I can judge the effectiveness of the presentation
4
Presentations are judged for originality and creativity, organization of content, oral presentation, knowledge of material, clarity of artwork (charts, graphs, slides), and overall presentation.
5
Many believe that good presenters are born, not made. This is simply not true. Sure, some people are more relaxed and comfortable speaking in front of others, but everyone can learn the skills and techniques they need to increase their level of confidence and performance when presenting.

We may have our personal preferences, but when it comes to quality, we may share a similar train of thought.
11
Effective presentation of ideas follows a logical and cohesive flow and has focus. The sentences/ideas presented in it are well supported by each other and are elaborated for clarity along with carefully chosen words as one of its stylistic elements.
12
We can use a set of criteria(creativity, entertainment, and relevance) to assess the effectiveness of a presentation. When we use a set of criteria for judging the effectiveness of the presentation, we can come up with a more comprehensive analysis of the material.
13
Gathering data about the subject of a presentation is another way to check its effectiveness.
14
A good presentation contains at least four elements:
Content
Structure
Packaging
Human Element
15
CONTENT
It contains information that people need. Presentations must account for how much information the audience can absorb in one sitting.
16
STRUCTURE
It has a logical beginning, middle, and end. It must be sequenced and paced so that the audience can understand it.
17
PACKAGING
It must be well prepared. The audience is at the mercy of a presenter.
18
HUMAN ELEMENT
A good presentation will be remembered much more than a good report because it has a person attached to it. However, you must still analyze the audience's needs.

Why is it important to define the purpose of the presentation?
21
The purpose of your presentation not only decides the content and style but also affects the amount of audience interaction. Depending upon your purpose – to inform, to analyze, or to persuade – you should be flexible enough to adjust to new input and unexpected audience reaction.

What is an effective presentation?
23
Giving an effective presentation means working with both the audience and the topic. It’s important to know how to relate to who you are communicating with in order to get through to them.
