Moles

  • A mole is just a (very large) number of particles.

  • Amount of substance is measured using a unit called the mole (mol for short) and given the symbol n.

  • One mole is roughly 6×10^23 particles which is Avagadro's constant

Molar mass

  • Molar mass is just the same as relative molecular mass (Mr)

  • Molar Mass of CaCO3 is 40.1 + 12 + (3 x 16) = 100.1g/mol

  • Moles= Mass/(Molar Mass (Mr))
