introduction 

• history is generally divided in 3 periods - ancient, medieval and modern

• in class 7 we are going to study medieval history

• period from 8th to 18th century CE marks beginning and end of medieval period in India

• during this period several changes took place in the social ,economic and political structures

• in ancient period Indian culture remained aloof from outside world

• during medieval period Indian culture was highly influenced by changes that took place in outside world

• the main source of information of the period are literature and archeological findings

• the literature of the period is consist of religious works and commentaries based on the puranas and Smrities

• autobiography are the stories of persons life written by that person also helps us to understand the life of medieval period

• manuscripts are the main sources of information about the mediaeval period

• Historical records of this period exist in the different varieties of languages

• the well know works of the period are tahqiq-i-hind ,ain-i-akhbari (biography of akhbar) which were written in persian

• the achievement of this period was the availability of paper which encourage the writing of record

•  the travel accounts of foreign visitors like Marco polo ,Bernier etc are important sources of information
