4
IRL
environments also influence the way people and animals develop and live.
Before we learn more about the indigenous nations of what is today called Maryland, it's important to be familiar with the different geographical regions where the people live/d
5
Classification
For this lesson, we will say that Maryland has three regions (as pictured). However, as you research, you may find maps where MD has more regions, maybe with different names than the ones shown here. Geographers may vary their language or the details of their classification; however, this map still gives us a sense of the key characteristics of regions in MD.

1. All humans have the same fundamental human needs for food, shelter, clothing, etc.
2. The environment that we live in influences how we meet these fundamental needs.
3. Let's go back in time---400 years back. Imagine two families--one Iroquois living in the mountain region, and the other Algonquin living on the Eastern shore.
What is each family eating for supper? How did the environment influence what they are eating for supper?
