What belongs to whom?

• You know that de shows posession or relationship and is the equivalent of -'s in English

• El regalo de Ana = Ana's gift

• Los primos de mis amigos = My friends' cousins

Possessive adjectives

• You use possessive adjectives to tell what belongs to someone or to show relationship.

• In English, our possessive adjectives are...

• my, your, his, hers, its, ours, or their

Here are the Spanish possessive adjectives

Again, they must match the noun that's being possessed in GENDER and NUMBER.

Mi(s) = my
Tu(s) = your (informal)
Su(s) = his/her/their/your (formal)
Nuestro(s)/Nuestra(s) = our

Just like other adjectives in Spanish...

• Possessive adjectives will agree with the noun in gender and number.

• Only nuestro or vuestro have masculine and feminine endings.

• mi cámara --> mis cámaras

• nuestro abuelo --> nuestros abuelos

• nuestra hija --> nuestras hijas

"Su" and "sus"

• Su and sus can have different meanings...

• his, her, its, your (formal), or their

• sus flores --> las flores de ella

• sus regalos --> los regalos de Javier y Carlos

• To be more specific, you can use the de + noun/pronoun
