The sun provides light and heat
The sun is our main source of light and heat on the Earth
without light from the sun all living things would not be able to stay alive
The amount of heat from the sun that reaches the earth is enough to keep earth warm and support life

The sun and the moon are in the sky
the sun and the moon in space. Space is a huge and dark area outside the earth
the earth is a planet, , it moves around the sun
The moon moves around the earth

The sun is shaped like a sphere , it is a huge, the sun is made up of hot gases

The moon does not give off its own light
it reflects light from the Sun
From the earth , we see different shapes of the Moon on different days

Position of the sun
the position of sun in the sky changes throughout the day
When things are in the Sun, they from dark areas on the ground near them, these area are called shadows
A shadow always falls on the opposite side of the sun

Long shadows in the morning
The Sun rises and is low in the sky in the morning
Things in the sun during the morning form long shadows

Short shadows in the afternoon
After the sun rises higher in the sky, the shadows get shorter
When the sun is directly above us at noon , things in the sun form short shadows

the sun starts to set in the evening

The cardinal points
The cardinal points are the four main directions : North, South, West, East
We usually see a compass rose on a map. A compass rose shows the four cardinal points. It is used on a map to locate directions

Scientist often make use of cardinal points to locate places on the Earth
