How we report questions

—In “REPORTED QUESTIONS” we do not have a question structure, now we have a “statement”

• —Paul asked: “Are you coming to the party tonight, Jane?”

• Paul asked Jane if she was coming to the party that night

When there is a question word, we use it in the reported speech

• John asked: "When do you play badminton?" 

• John asked me when I played badminton.

How we report commands

Introductory verb: TELL

TO + INFINITIVE

NOT TO + INFINITIVE

"Switch off the light" he said to me

• He told me to switch off the light

"Don't shout at me" my sister said to me

• My sister told me not to shout at her
