2
What is an adverbs job?
An adverb is a describing word.
An adverb can only describe a VERB,ADJECTIVE, or ANOTHER ADVERB!
Adverbs DO NOT describe nouns (that's the adjective's job.)
3
An Adverb can tell:
HOW: The baby cried loudly
WHEN: We hope the rain will stop soon.
WHERE: He left his hat there.
TO WHAT EXTENT: He really wants his bottle.
4
Adverbs can also be used to make comparisons.
To compare two items, add er to the adverb
For example, let's use the adverb deep. The scuba diver dove deep in the sea.
Now let's compare two things. The giant squid dove deeper than the scuba diver could go.
We compared how deep the diver and the squid dove.
5
Adverbs can also compare more than two things.
For example:
The octopus dove the deepest of all of the sea creatures.
Here we compared the octopus to ALL sea creatures.
to compare more than two, you add est to the end of the adverb.
