Many English words have Greek or Latin roots and affixes.

By becoming familiar with them, you'll be able unlock the meaning of many words.

4

Roots are

word parts that have means that can't stand alone. You combine them to for words.

5

Example:

Aud is a root, meaning "hear". Aud is not a word by itself. When added, it can make words like audiovisual, which mean something you hear and see.
