Simile
Uses like or as to compare two things that are different in most ways, but are the same in one important way.
EXAMPLE: "giant rocks with razor edges crouch like a sea monster with wide-open jaws.”
EXAMPLE: They get along like oil and vinegar.

Used to compare two things that are different in most ways, but are the same in one important way.
Similar to simile BUT does not use like or as
EXAMPLE: “...dabbled his big paw”
EXAMPLE: Life is a roller coaster.

Hyperbole
A statement that is exaggerated to make a point.
EXAMPLE: I am so hungry I could eat a horse.
EXAMPLE: He runs faster than a car.

Personification
Giving human qualities (actions, feelings,
thoughts) to nonhuman objects.
EXAMPLE: “...sun streaks climbed up the wall and fell over...”
EXAMPLE: The ocean danced in the moonlight.

Words that make the sound the represent when spoken.
