What are verbs?

  • words that express an action or state of being

  • action, linking, helping verbs

Action Verbs

show an action you can SEE

Ex. kick, throw, skate, climb, pounce

Ex. think, like, enjoy, wonder

Linking Verbs

  • don't show action

  • join the subject with a word that describes the subject

  • Ex. The quarterback was tired. The linking verb is was. It describes the subject was tired.
