Our solar system has eight planets, and each one travels around the sun. The four planets closest to the sun are called the inner planets. These planets are rocky, small and relatively close together. Then there are four outer planets. These are made mostly of gas! These four outer planets are much larger and more far apart than the four inner planets. Between the inner and outer planets, there is an asteroid belt that is also revolving around the sun.
