Action Verbs

Verbs express 'doings' and 'happenings'. Action verbs express physical actions or happenings that we can see around us, such as travelled, rpill and return

Definitions

  • tense: the form of a verb that indicates when an action or process occurs; for example, in the past, present or future

  • verb: a word that expresses an action or state

  • auxiliary verb: a verb that adds meaning to or 'helps' a main or full verb. Most commonly, auxiliary verbs are used to indicate the tense of the main verb.

Action Verbs

Like all verbs, action verbs have different tenses. They can be combined with auxiliary verbs to show the main verb in a sentence. For example:

The wind was blowing very strongly yesterday.

In this sentence, the verb was shows that the action of blowing happened in the past.

Auxiliary verbs can also take a negative form.
