  • Can be used to set off nonrestrictive elements such as remarks, tips, or facts within a sentence

  • Parentheses are used to set off the least important information in the sentence

  • They can also be used when the author is speaking to the reader directly.

  • My father cooked us lasagna (my favorite) for dinner.

  • The Golden Goblet (1981) received the Newberry Honor award.

  • There are no spaces between the opening parenthesis and the word that comes after it, nor is there a space between the last word and the closing parenthesis
