Part-to-Part Ratios

• How many squares are there?

• How many circles are there?

• Squares to circles is 3 to 4, or 3:4

• Circles to squares is 4 to 3, or 4:3

• The numbers 3 and 5 are the terms of the ratio

Part-to-Whole Ratios

• How many squares are there?

• How many circles are there?

• How many shapes are there?

• Squares to shapes is 4 to 7, or 4:7

• Circles to shapes is 3 to 7, or 3:7

• You can write a part-to-who ratio also as a fraction! (4/7, or 3/7)
