Percents are just another way to represent numbers (Take Notes)

  • Percentages are just another way of representing (showing) numbers in math just like decimals and fractions.

  • Percents can be converted into equivalent (equal) Decimals or Fractions.

  • Percents stand for a value between 0 and 1 just like fractions do. (100% = 1 whole)

  • Percents more than 100% are bigger than 1 whole (150% = 1.5)

How to Turn a Decimal into a Percentage (Notes)

  • To turn a Decimal into a Percent you multiply the Decimal by 100 and add a percent % sign.

  • A quick short cut method to multiply your decimal by 100 is to hop the decimal to the RIGHT two times.

  • The reason this makes sense is because the word Percent means out of 100.

Special Situations

  • If your Percent turns into a Fraction with a decimal in the numerator you must get rid of the decimal.
