6.3 Writing Polynomial Functions
Algebra 2
Created by Kimberly English

2
Objective
Students will be able to create a polynomial function given the zeros.
3
Prerequisite Knowledge
Multiply Polynomials
Operations with Square Roots
Operations with Imaginary Numbers
Understand zeros that are square roots and imaginary numbers.
4
Vocabulary
Zero(s) - where the function equals the value of zero; x-intercept.
5
How to find the polynomial function given the zeros:
Step 1: Set each value equal to x.
Step 2: Using inverse operation, move the numeric value to the left side of the equation.
Step 3: Multiply the binomials.
Step 4: Set equal to f(x).
6
Example #1. Write a polynomial function given the zeros: 6 and -4.
7
Example #2. Write a polynomial function given the zeros: 0, 5, and -1.
