Sequence

  • Arithmetic sequence: A sequence that have a common difference between the consecutive terms.

  • 2    4      6     8   10 . . . .

    In this sequence we are adding 2 to each term in order to produce the next term.

  • Geometric sequence: A sequences that have a common ratio between the consecutive terms.

  • 1     2      4     8    16 . . . .

    In this sequence we double each term in order to produce the next term.

How to find the nth term of an arithmetic sequence

  • Step 01: Calculate the difference between each term (2nd term – 1st term)

    Step 02: Multiply the difference by n.

    Step 03: Subtract the first term – common difference.

    Step 04: Add the answer to step 2 to the answer to step 3
