2

Scientific Notation must be written with a decimal that is

  • Greater than 1

  • Smaller than 10

3

The exponent on Scientific Notation means different things:

  • A positive exponent means the number is large

  • A negative exponent means the number is small

4

To determine how many times larger one number is than another:

  • Put the number with the larger power on top (if the powers are the same, put the larger decimal on top).

  • Divide the DECIMALS ONLY in your calculator.

  • Subtract the powers of 10.

  • Rewrite with your new decimal x 10 to the power of your subtracted powers.

  • Put the whole thing in your calculator to finish multiplying.
