NounsNouns represent people (teacher, Mary), places (town, Asia) and things (table, music).
AdjectivesAn adjective is a word that tells us more about a noun (big, red, expensive).
AdverbsAdverbs tell us more about verbs, adjectives or adverbs (loudly, really, extremely).
3
DeterminersDeterminers are words like the, an, this that start a noun phrase.
PrepositionsA preposition expresses the relationship of a noun or pronoun to another word (at, in, from).
PronounsPronouns are small words like you, ours, some that can take the place of a noun.
ConjunctionsConjunctions join two parts of a sentence (and, but, though).
InterjectionsShort exclamations with no real grammatical value (ah, dear, er)
4
The term "grammar" can also describe the linguistic behavior of groups of speakers and writers, rather than individuals. Differences in scales are important to this sense of the word: for example, the term "English grammar" could refer to the whole of English grammar (that is, to the grammars of all the speakers of the language),
