Review

  • use 'the' when it's clear which thing/person we mean (Turn off the light)

  • use 'a' the first time you introduce something

  • use 'the' the 2nd time you mention something (There is a light over there. Can you turn the light off?)

  • use 'a' when there is one person or one thing (Rachel works in a bank)

  • use 'an' before a / e / i / o / u (an animal)

  • use 'a/an' when introducing a person or thing or telling someone's job (She is an engineer)

40

Review

  • non-count nouns do not use 'a/an' or numbers, and they cannot be plural (I need some advice.)t

  • use 'some', 'a lot of', 'a piece of' to quantify non-count nouns (I need some more information)

  • some nouns can be both count and non-count (paper, a paper, some paper)

  • common non-count nouns: water, air, rice, salt, information, plastic, music, tennis

  • singular count nouns cannot stand alone (a car, cars, the car, many cars --- NOT car alone)
