• Ayat e Tatheer is a clear verse in the Holy Quran in which Allah (swt) has mentioned about purifying the Ahle Bait (as)

• The term Ahle Bait includes ONLY the Panjetan Paak (as) and not the wives

• Traditions state that All the Imams (as) are also purified from all uncleanliness

• Even Ahle Tasannun scholars have noted this incident in this manner

Event of Dawat e Zul Asheera

• There are various occasions when Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) announced the Imamate, Caliphate and successorship of Hazrat Imam Ali (a.s.).

• First of such occassions is Dawat e Zul Asheera.

• This Hadees is very well known amongst the exegetes and the traditionalists with the name of Hadees Yaumud Dar and Hadees Bid'ul Da'wah.

• Holy Prophet (sawa) said: "Which one of you will be my supporter so that he may become my brother, wasi (vicegerent) and successor amongst you?"

• After Ali (as) was the only one who accepted, Holy Prophet (sawa) said: "O sons of Abdul Muttalib! This young man is my brother, vicegerent and successor amongst you. Listen to his words and follow him".

Efforts to alter history 1

Muhammad bin Jarir Tabari (died 310 A.H.) has narrated the incident of invitation to the kinsfolk in detail in his history. In his Tafsir however, while commenting on the verse "Admonish your nearest kinsfolk" he mentions what he has written in his history along with the text and authority, but when he reaches the sentence: "Ali is my brother, vicegerent and successor" he alters the sentence and says: "Ali is my

brother, and this and that"

Efforts to alter history 2

In Al Bidaya ibne Kathir says, It is Mutawaatir tradition but then he says “ My Heart does not accept how such young boy can be appointed?”. Some sunni reject this tradition because H.Ali (a.s.) was not Balig. However in response to thi, we say that H.Isa (a.s.) and H.Yahya (a.s.) were appointed in childhood and those who believe in Quran cannot reject it.

Conclusion

• First of the many occasions when Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) announced the Imamate, Caliphate and successorship of Hazrat Imam Ali (a.s.) was Dawat e Zul Asheera.

• Almost all tafaseer have mentioned this incident in exegesis of the verse 26:214.

• Holy Prophet (sawa) had very clearly mentioned in his khutba about successorship of Imam Ali (as).

• Some Ahle Tasannun scholars have tried to alter the history but have not been successful in their attempts completely.
