Prosedur Penerjemahan Deskriptif

Prosedur penerjemahan ini memberikan uraian secara deskriptif akan suatu istilah atau ungkapan yang belum ada padanannya dalam BSa (Newmark, 1988 & Hoed 2005). Prosedur ini biasanya diterapkan untuk istilah-istilah dalam suatu bidang.

Descriptive or self-explanatory translation: It uses generic terms to convey the meaning. It is appropriate in a wide variety of contexts where formal equivalence is considered insufficiently clear. In a text aimed at a specialized reader, it can be helpful to add the original SL term to avoid ambiguity. 

Contoh

Bsu : Midodareni

Bsa : An event in the evening before the wedding when the future bride has shower

Bsu : The Siamese usually have points in some parts of their body.

Bsa : Kucing jenis Siam biasanya mempunyai point, warna lebih gelap pada ujung, pada beberapa bagian tubuhnya

Dalam prosedur yang satu ini arti Bahasa Target dijelaskan dalam beberapa kata.

Contoh :         

1. Samurai 

a Japanese aristocracy from the eleventh to the nineteenth century (aristokrasi Jepang dari abad kesebelas hingga abad kesembilan belas)

2. White Monday : à Holy Spirit (hari suci)

Penerjemahan fungsional

Functional Equivalence: It means using a referent in the TL culture whose function is similar to that of the source language (SL) referent.

Merupakan penerjemahan yang memberikan penjelasan atau uraian akan suatu padanan yang menekankan pada fungsinya (Newmark, 1988).

Penerjemahan ini diperuntukkan istilah-istilah khusus pada suatu bidang.

BSu : A litter tray

BSa : Kotak untuk buang air kucing

BSu :Pecalang 

BSa :  traditional security guard
