  • There is used when the subject is singular. Example. There is a nice T-shirt in this store.s

  • There are is used when the subject is plural. Example. There are some red shoes on sale.

  • The word order in yes/no questions or simple questions is. Is there / Are there + subject + rest of the sentence + ?

  • The word order in yes/no answer or short answer is Yes/No + coma + there is /there are. Or the rest of the sentence. Are there any red jacket on sale? Yes, there are. or There is a blue jacket on sale too. Is there a purple shirt in this store? No there isn't, but there are blue shirts.

ANY AND SOME

  • ANY is used with plral nouns. It is used in questions and negative sentences. Means "one or more" Are there any black jacket on sale? No, there aren't any black jackets on sale. / No there aren't any.

  • SOME is used with plural nouns. Some is used in affirmative sentences and questions. It means "more than one" Do you want some purple socks? Yes, I want some purple socks and some orange socks too. / Yes, I want some.

  • In questions, the same meaning can be expressed in different ways. Are there any pants on sale? Are threre some pants on sale? = Are threre some pants on sale?

  • In sentences, the same meaning can be expressed in different ways. I I need you to buy some pants. I need to buy some pants. You don't need any black shoes. = You don't need black shoes.
