• They are used in electric motors

• They are used in headphones and loudspeakers

• They have fun uses - like magnetic letters!

Permanent Magnets

• Permanent magnets come in all shapes and sizes

• They can be used to attract metal objects such as paperclips

• A permanent magnet is one that stays magnetized for a long time ^{(it doesn't stop being a magnet after it is used)}

Magnetic materials

• Some materials are attracted by magnets, some are not

• A material which is attracted by magnets is called a magnetic material

• Iron is a magnetic material. Steel is mostly made of iron, so most types of steel are magnetic too
