  • In this chapter, we only focusing on isometric transformation, its means that after transformation an image will have exact same shape and same size as an object.

  • So, in this chapter we only learn about an isometric transformation which are TRANSLATION, REFLECTION and ROTATION.

  • The other transformation which is enlargement is not an isometric transformation. We will learn in other chapter.

11.1 Transformations

11.1.1 Describe the changes of shapes, sizes, directions and orientations of an object under a transformation, and hence explain the idea of one-to-one correspondence between points in a transformation.

11.1.2 Explain the idea of congruency in transformations

4

Object and Image

  • Original figure is called OBJECT

  • After transformation is called IMAGE

  • When OBJECT move in a TRANSFORMATION, each point of the OBJECT follows the SAME PATTERN of MOVEMENT.

  • TRANSFORMATION is a MOVEMENT with a certain ORIENTATION and MATCH without changing the shape.

5

CONGRUENT

  • Two geometrical shapes are congruent if they have SAME SHAPE and SIZE.

  • Congruent figures have the same area too.

6

SIMILAR

  • Two geometrical shapes are similar if the correspponding angles are equal and

  • the corresponding sides are propotional.
