Sequencers are words that organize your writing and speaking, words like first, next, then, after that, and finally.

We often use sequencers in English when we give instructions, describe a process, or tell stories.

3

First

In or at the beginning (of a series of events).

Examples:

- First, put water to boil.

- Call your mom first then you call me.

4

Then

Next or after that.

Examples:

- Let me finish this job, then we'll go.

- Give her the letter to read, then she'll understand.

5

Next

Immediately after.

Examples:

- So what happened next?

- What would you like next?

- First, fry the garlic. Next, add the ginger.

6

Finally

Used especially at the beginning of a sentence to introduce the last point or idea.

Examples:

- Finally, I'd like to thank everyone for coming this evening.

- Finally, serve with salad.
