Adding 'ing'

When we add the suffix 'ing' to a word it tells us that something is happening now.


E.g. I am skipping


First we need to look at the root word (skip)

Then we need to double the last consonant (skipp)

And then add 'ing' (skipping)

Let's practise the spelling rule!

When we add 'ing' the last consonant of the root word is doubled to keep the vowel sound short.


run ---> running

skip ---> skipping

shop ---> shopping
