Asking about time

  • When you want to ask someone the time, you say: Qué hora es?

  • When you want to ask when something starts or ends, you would say: A qué hora...?

  • Ejemplo: A qué hora termina la clase de español?

Telling Time

  • When telling time, there are two ways you will respond.

  • 1 o' clock is SINGULAR, which means you are going to use "es la..."

  • Ejemplo: 1:32 "es la una treinta y dos"

  • **Remember that you have to keep the same formula of when you write numbers when writing the time.**

Telling Time

  • Every other hour uses the following formula/phrase:

  • hour + y + number of minutes

  • "Son las..."

  • Ejemplo: 2:34 PM; son las dos y treinta y cuatro

Phrases you'll hear AFTER the time

  • Here are some phrases that people will say after the time to specify specific information.

  • En punto: on the dot

  • de la mañana: used for morning hours (12:00 AM - 11:59 AM)

  • de la tarde: used for afternoons hours (12:00 PM - 7:00 or 8:00 PM)

  • de la noche: used for night hours. (8:00 PM - 11:59 PM)

More phrases you'll hear AFTER the time

  • y cuarto: this means that it is 15 minutes past the hour (3:15 = son las tres y cuarto)

  • Mediodía: Noon

  • Medianoche: Midnight

  • We learned that there are three types of verb endings: -ar, -er, and -ir

  • I want to give you time to practice this with me and then we should be able to move quickly through 2.04 on Friday.

Conjugating Verbs

  • When you conjugate a verb, you take the verb ending from the complete word and change it.

  • Ejemplo: Contar = cont + ar

  • When I change my verb, I will write cont, and then write the correct verb ending
