Adding the 'ed' suffix

2

Adding 'ed'

When we add the suffix 'ed' to a word it tells us that something happened in the past.

E.g. I skipped to the park.

Sometimes we can just add 'ed' to the end of a word, but sometimes we have to follow a spelling rule.

3

Let's practise the spelling rule

When we add 'ed' to the end of a word we have to double the last consonant to stop the vowel sound becoming a split digraph.

shop ---> shopped

skip ---> skipped

hop ---> hopped
