Can you remember the rules to form superlative adjectives?

Let's recap.....

RULE 1: Add -est to one-syllable words

• weird ~ weirdest

• slow ~ slowest

RULE 2: If an adjective ends in -e, add -st

• rare ~ rarest

• safe ~ safest

RULE 3: If an adjective ends in a vowel and a consonant, double the consonant

• big ~ biggest

• hot ~ hottest

RULE 4: If an adjective ends in a consonant and -y, change the -y to -i

• ugly ~ ugliest

• pretty ~ prettiest

RULE 5: Use most to adjectives with two syllables or more

• colourful ~ most colourful

• expensive ~ most expensive

RULE 6: Irregular adjectives

• bad ~ worse

• far ~ furthest
