• Locate the digit in the place you are rounding off to

• Look at the NEXT digit after the place you are rounding to... if it is 4 or less, round down. If it is a 5 or more, round up.

Comparing decimals

• Read place values from largest to smallest (left to right), until you find one that is different in each number

• The number with the higher digit in that place is the larger number

Adding decimals

• Set up a vertical addition, making sure the decimal points line up

• Do the addition as normal, making sure the decimal point in your answer is in line too!

• Set up a vertical subtraction, making sure the decimal points line up

• Do the subtraction as normal, making sure the decimal point in your answer is lined up too.

Multiplying Decimals

• Multiply the numbers as usual

• The total number of decimal places in the original sum must be the total number of decimal places in your answer
