a substance that attracts iron , cobalt and nickle is kown as magnet. there can be natural magnet as well as artifical one.

how was magnet discoverd?

it is said that, there was a shepherd named magnes, who lived in ancient greece. he used to take his hrad of sheep and gots to the nearby mountains for gazing and his iron tick attracted a rock . and this is how magnet was discoverd.

what are the properties of magnet?

• Attractive Property – Magnet attracts ferromagnetic materials like iron, cobalt, and nickel.

• Repulsive Properties – Like magnetic poles repel each other and unlike magnetic poles attract each other.

• Directive Property – A freely suspended magnet always points in a north-south direction.

what are poles?
