Multiple Choice
Long finds an essay on the internet that is for the same topic as the one Mr. Wayne has given for practice. He copies one of the body paragraphs but uses a dictionary to find a synonym for most words.

This IS plagiarism
Although he has changed many of the words, this student has not put any of his own thoughts into the work. It would have been okay if he used the idea, but wrote it in his own words.
Copying a whole entire paragraph is certainly plagiarism.

Multiple Choice
Jennie really likes the opening sentence that Mr. Wayne used in his introduction example. She uses some of it, but adjusts it so that it fits the essay topic better. The rest of her essay is her own.

This IS NOT plagiarism
This is okay because the student has adjusted the material and added her own thoughts.
Also, it is only 1 sentence. Occasionally people will write a sentence that is very similar to someone elses; this is fine.
6
Multiple Choice
Khang has too much homework one night and doesn't have time to write the essay that is due the next day. He pays his older brother to write it for him and then changes it a bit.

7
This IS plagiarism
This is obviously plagiarism. It is not his own work or thoughts. Changing it 'a bit' is not enough.
8
Multiple Choice
Jenny and Anna love working together. For a SAC they both used all the same quotes and had the same ideas for each of their body paragraphs.

This IS NOT plagiarism
Using the same quotes as someone else is completely okay and this WILL happen.
Having the same idea as someone is also okay. Both students still would have written this essay in their own words and would never been able to see the other person's work.

Multiple Choice
David didn't have any ideas for his essay so he put the topic into ChatGPT and asked it to write an essay for him. Then he edited the essay by changing the quotes and changing some of the words to different synonyms.

David did not use any of his own ideas and he only changed the quotes and SOME of the ideas.
AI is not a good tool to use in VCE English, because it does not have enough knowledge about our writing structures or how we analyse texts. I do not recommend using it, but if you ARE going to use it, it should only be used to help you brainstorm ideas or to explain things to you.

Multiple Select
Peter committed plagiarism on an Outcome/SAC. He memorized an essay that he found online and copied it almost identically.
Which of the following MAY happen?
He gets a 0 for that Outcome/SAC
He must recomplete the Outcoem/SAC
He and his parents must meet with the AES leadership team
Nothing because he won't get caught
