A material is considered useful when
it serves its purpose or even beyond.
Empty bottles are made to contain any
solid or liquid material. When they are already
empty, they can still be made into flower vase,
coin bank, or house decors.

When a material can no longer
be used after it has served its
purpose, it is already considered
waste.
Examples are newspapers and food leftovers.
