Procedures--the necessary evil!
Coming into the Room:
Get your Guitar--(you'll be assigned one later today), a wooden block, and a music stand--these may already be in your spot
Turn Your iPad on and open up our TEAM
Be ready to start class when the bell rings
Don't be that person--You know the one--comes in late and isn't ready and holds everyone up or disrupts learning because he/she doesn't know what is going on or is late getting to where he/she needs to be
7
Procedures cont'd
We'll talk about what to do with your guitars after you get them
Restroom:
We'll have a break in the middle of class--If you have to go before or after the break you can go during your personal practice time. (FYI I don't think this is the best use of your time ;)!
There are bathrooms right outside the class on this floor. Don't go up the stairs
Take no more than 5 minutes
There are QR codes to scan when you go and when you get back.
8
Procedures cont'd
Phone:
We will have a 5 minute break in the middle of class that you can check your phone--any other time it
Goes in your backpack--not on your chair, in your pocket or on your stand
First time you have it out you'll bring it up to me for the rest of the class and during the 5 minute break you'll have a worksheet. If you have it out after the break you will also get worksheet and it will be due by the beginning of the next class.
Second offense--parent phone call during class,
Third offense--lunch detention
Four offense--counselor referral
Fifth offense--Dean referral
9
Procedures cont'd
iPad
Make sure you have it fully charged
You may not use your phone in place of your iPad
If you choose to not have your iPad or it needs to be charged you will have to sit up front and follow along on the screen
10
Technology we will use
Teams will be our home base for information and assignments
Let's look at some things in Teams
Each semester is broken up into 7 modules and each module is 5 class days
Class Notebook
There will be a section in your notebook content library for each module
There is also a section for information and things you will use all year long
In your personal notebook you will get some material you will need for your assignments
11
TEAMS cont'd
Assignments
Look in your assignments for one called Getting started in Flipgrid
How many of you have used Flipgrid before?
We are going to go through this together and then I'm going to give you a few mintutes to make your video
Make sure you flip your image
Make sure you DOWNLOAD your video before you go onto finish
Make sure you attach your video to the assignment
12
5 Minute Phone Break
And Go:
13
Grades--How you earn them!
Practice grades for each module--do what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it!
Tone Savvy--there will be tone savvy assignments for each module. You will get a tone savvy summative grade for the quarter and one for the semester
Flipgrid--there will be several flipgrid assignments through the year. Some of these assignments will be formative and some summative
Technique Demonstrations--some formative, some summative
Performance--some formative, some summative
There will be some "written" quizzes and tests--these will all be done on Quizizz.

14
Assign Guitars
Hand out guitars and have them record the number of their guitar
Procedure for Guitars
Case goes on the floor on your right side. Any time we are not playing the guitars they will lay on the case at your side on the floor
NOT leaning up against anything
NOT on your lap
Go over parts of the guitar
Go over string numbers and fret numbers
Go over left hand finger numbers
15
Class Notebook
Find your class notebook in TEAMS
Find the ______Tab
Find the Page with the guitar parts
Find the page with the string numbers
Remember--string 1 is closest to the floor
Find the fret numbers
Remember fret 1 is closest to the nut
Remember if you push the string down in the first fret you use your first finger, etc.
16
Mock Tab songs
Find the page in your notebook that has the songs on it
The first number in front of each slash is the string number
The number after each slash is the fret number
Remember if you are playing in the first fret--first finger, second fret--second finger, third fret--third finger, fourth fret--fourth finger
17
Procedure for practicing
Play the entire time I give you to practice
play through the whole piece, section, etc. that you are supposed to be working on
Find the part that you play the worst
Work on that part by itself at least 5 times
play the whole piece, selection, etc. again
Find another part you are struggling with
Work on that part by itself at least 5 times
Continue like this until your practice time is over
Using these procedures work on one of these songs and figure out how to play it. If you finish one and play it well move to another song.
18
End of Class
I will tell you when you can put your guitars away
Put your guitar in your case, zip the case and put it on the correct rack, in the correct slot with the number on the side of the case facing out
Put your block in the tub and your stand on the rack the correct way
PROCEDURE IF YOU ARE TURNING ANYTHING IN TO ME:
DO NOT hand me anything
Place whatever you have to turn in in the tray with your Day, Block and Class name
ENDING Activitiy--find out which middle school the people on either side of you went to
