​Negatives

A sentence becomes negative by placing ​no before the first verb.

​

• ​Yo canto.

• ​Yo no canto.

• ​Yo no quiero cantar.

​Affirmatives words

• algo-something

• alguien-someone

• ​a veces, algunas veces-sometimes

• ​siempre-always

• ​alguno-some

• ​

• ​Ex: No tengo nada en mi bolsa.

• ​Ella no entiende nada.

• ​

​

​If you have two verbs in the sentence, no precedes the first verb, and nada follows the second verb.

• ​Ella no quiere hacer nada

• ​No vamos a escribir nada

​

• ​In Spanish, you can use double negatives in a sentences, sometimes even more than two.

• ​Algo can be used as somewhat. El libro es algo interesante.

• ​Nada can be used as not at all. Este libro no es nada interesante.

​Nadie

It can be used in the following ways:

• No+​verb+nadie

• ​Ex: ¿Hay alguien ahí?

• ​No,no hay nadie.

• ​No viene nadie a mi fiesta.

• ​

• ​it can also be placed before the first verb. In this case, no is not used.

• ​Nadie quiere cocinar

• ​Nadie sabe donde esta él.

​Nunca, jamás

​No procedes the verb and nunca or jamás follow it. Nunca and jamás mean never.

​

• ​Ella no habla nunca; es muy tímida.

• ​El no baila jamás.

​

​It can also be placed before the first verb:

• ​Jamás bebo café con azúcar.

​Ninguno- not one,no

​It is the only word in this list that is an adjective, so it is modified with the number and gender it modifies.

​It becomes ningún before a masculine noun

​

• ​No hay ningún hotel en esta ciudad.

• ​No tenemos ninguna idea.

Ninguno can also precede the noun

• ​Ningún muchacho va a la playa.

• ​Ninguna persona llega tarde a clases.
