Unit 12. What is Direction?

​What is Direction?

​Direction gives you the route of going to a particular place.

​For example, Adam is telling his friend how to get to his house. In other words, he is giving directions to his house

​

​"Walk straight until you reach the post office, then turn left. You will find my house with a red roof"

​What is a compass rose?

​A compass rose displays the cardinal directions (North, East, South & West) and the intermediate directions on a map, chart or compass. It is often seen in the corner of geographical maps.

​

​The compass is amazing because no matter where you stand in the world, it will always point towards the North pole.

​What are compass points?

​In the past, travellers used the position of the stars and the sun to tell the directions.

​

​Now we use the compass rose to tell us the direction we need. The four main directions are (N) north, (E) east, (S) south, (W) west.
