​What are Longitudes?

​Longitudes are vertical lines extending from the Noth Pole to the South Pole.

They are imaginary lines up between the Arctic and Antarctic stretching from north to south.

• ​The globe is divided into 360 longitudes, but unlike Latitudes there is not an easy point to be a reference, such as an equator for announcing zero degree.

• ​To avoid confusion the world countries have approved that Latitudes(zero) is the line passes through the Royal Observatory at Greenwich.
