Primary and Secondary Sources!
It's not to say one is better than the other necessarily, they just serve different purposes depending on your research. Many historians will consult multiple primary and secondary source documents when they are researching a topic.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Primary Sources
ADVANTAGES:
-It is a real item from the time
-It is usually created by someone with first hand experience of the account
DISADVANTAGES
-May be biased
-May be missing information/perspective
-May be damaged

ADVANTAGES:
-May contain more complete information
-May have extensive data/information to back it up
DISADVANTAGES:
-May be biased
-The author was not there
-Time has passed since the event
