• ​To talk about general truths/facts, (If/When + Present Simple) eg:

• ​When snakes are scared, they bite.

• ​For unreal or imaginary situations (If + Past Simple + would/could)

• ​If I won the lottery, I would travel the world.

• ​If I were rich, I would live in a huge mansion.

• ​If I were you, I wouldn't buy it.
